Nassau, New Providence – Access to clean and safe drinking water is considered a fundamental right. While millions of people across the globe continue to be denied access to safe drinking water, the New Providence Water Development Company (NPWDCo.) has taken steps to ensure that their customers are receiving the best water. Now, after months of construction, the New Providence Water Development has completed work on a brand-new Reverse Osmosis plant.
More than 2 years in the making, the new, state of the art facility represents a multi-million-dollar investment intended to improve both the reliability of the water as well as the standard of water supply to an expanded service area ranging from Lyford Cay, Old Fort Bay, Mount Pleasant, Serenity and South Ocean residential areas. Now completed, the new plant has replaced the existing pump house and coupled with new pipework has allowed NPWDCo. to improve the quality of the water distributed bringing it even more in line with world standards. NPWDCo currently has water quality which rates significantly higher than recommended world standards and has improved their water quality 300% since 2017.
“This plant has been designed and built to last,” explained New Providence Water Development Company President Andrew Symonette. “We invested a significant amount of our resources in acquiring the highest standard of stainless steel and other materials which means that over time we’ll spend less time and money on maintenance and more on improving the quality of the product we provide our customers”.
While set to be officially opened in the coming months, the plant has been producing water since late 2017. The completion of the plant is a culmination of a series of developments and improvement undertaken by the company in the past year as they work to improve the customer experience and overall quality of service – and it’s been a big difference, which residents have noticed immediately.
“The feedback has been great, residents have called us to tell us they’ve noticed the difference in water hardness and even the clarity of the water coming from their faucet and we’re happy that our efforts are being recognized”.
In addition to the construction of the plant, the company has made several major infrastructural upgrades including the replacement of miles of new pipelines to service its 1500 customers, a new web portal and social media spaces which have given customers a platform by which they can receive real-time assistance and access to important information.”
With the success of these major upgrades now under their belt, the company has set its sights on expansion. In the coming months, a new Reverse Osmosis train will be installed at the plant to increase its purification capacity from its current 1.3 million gallons per day to 2 million gallons per day.
“We’re very proud of this facility and would also like to construct other plants, expanding into other areas in the future,” Symonette said.

Nassau, New Providence – Just a few short months after relocating its operation to the Old Fort Bay Plaza, the New Providence Water Development Company is continuing its push toward improved customer service and convenience through the launch of its new Online Portal.
The newly designed website provides the full list of services offered by the company, along with valuable information regarding new and existing connections; providing access to downloadable versions of necessary forms and a platform for customers to register complaints.
The launch of the web portal www.npwaterco.com is the latest in a series of major upgrades to the company’s facilities which have been designed to not only improve quality of products and services but transform the way customers are able to engage with the company as well. The company’s recent efforts also included the establishment of an online social media presence which has given customers the platform to receive real-time assistance and access to important information.
“Because so much of the what happens in today’s world is accomplished through technology it was important that we also followed suit, first through our social media and now through the launch of the website” explained CEO Andrew Symonette. “Technology-driven changes are just one element of the work we’re doing. We’ve also neared completion on our Reverse Osmosis Plant.”

“We are hoping to have the plant completed by the end of the year with the new water being distributed at this time,” noted Symonette. “This is a little bit later than expected but it will have allowed us to complete new pipelines to service a significant amount of our 1500 customers. The new plant will replace the existing pump house and, coupled with the new pipework, will allow us to improve the quality of the water distribution and the service provided.”

Nassau, New Providence – For residents in Western New Providence, the New Providence Water Development Company (NPWDCo) has been the provider of safe, reliable water supply and wastewater services for many years. Through its service agreement with the Water & Sewerage Corporation, NPWDCo has and continues to service residents in Lyford Cay, Old Fort Bay, Mount Pleasant,
“Since the development of the Town Centre, the company has wanted its offices there.” explained NPWDCo. President, Andrew Symonette. “Many of our customers pay their bills in person so they can now stop by on their way to do their shopping or on their way to work”.
NPWDCo. currently accepts payments by mail or bank transfer but is working to establish an online payment service later in the year via a new website and has launched a Facebook page to assist the growing company with its communications needs, providing updates in real time and online assistance for minor inquiries.
“We live in a very tech driven world” said Symonette, “People want to be able to find information at any time as well as view and pay their bills online. We encourage all our customers to visit our Facebook page and like and follow us at https://www.facebook.com/NPWDCo/. There, we will advise of work upgrades, payment options and new projects.”
The company which formally began in 1967, has developed quickly, keeping pace with rapidly expanding Western New Providence area. “We have spent the last year investing almost twenty million dollars in upgrades for the whole distribution network; removing cast iron and galvanized pipework and installing new pipework in areas prone to leaks. In addition to this we are nearing completion of reverse osmosis desalination plant, greatly improving the quality of product for our customers.”
Final work on the RO plant is expected to be completed later this summer at which point the company will produce and distribute potable water in line with World Health Organization standards.

The New Providence Water Development is committed to improving the quality of the product we provide to our customers. With that in mind we are currently in the process of completing major upgrades to our facilities. Construction has begun on a 1.3 million gallon per day reverse osmosis desalination facility.
We have currently been replacing large portions of our distribution networks removing all cast iron and galvanized pipework from our system. Once completed the upgrade facilities and pipes will provide improved potable water with more pressure, to all our valued customers.
